Her Voice Fund

The HER Voice Fund is committed to empowering adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in decision-making to reduce HIV rates and enhance overall health, wellbeing, and rights. AGYW in Eastern and Southern Africa are notably affected by HIV, with those aged 15-24 constituting 68 percent of young people living with HIV and being more susceptible to infection than their male counterparts. The Fund acknowledges the critical need to address the disparities hindering AGYW's meaningful participation in decision-making that influences their health programming, advocating for inclusive laws and policies.

Beneficiaries

The primary beneficiaries include AGYW who are living with HIV, have disabilities, identify as LGBTIQ+, reside in conflict zones or rural areas, use or inject drugs, engage in sex work, or are pregnant or young mothers.

Project design

The project aims to:

  1. Offer grants in 13 priority countries for AGYW leadership in decision-making at all levels.
  2. Equip HER Voice Fund Ambassadors and AGYW to influence and lobby for beneficial policies and programmes.
  3. Foster a movement in the HIV response that celebrates AGYW leadership, involving key stakeholders in the development and execution of advocacy agendas.
  4. Compile and disseminate innovative approaches from grantees in Kenya for national learning and capacity enhancement.

Impact

The HER Voice Fund initiatives have led to:

  1. AGYW advocating for investment in their leadership and participating in policy-making at county and national levels.
  2. Enhancing the grantee’s abilities to secure funding from multilateral agencies through training and mentorship.
  3. Exchanging insights and supporting synergies with other women’s and girls’ engagement funds.
  4. Creating a ‘Linking and Learning’ platform for HER Voice Fund grantees and AGYW movements to share knowledge and amplify collective impact.
