Introducing the Youth Digital Safety Toolkit

The digital world has become an essential space for learning, connection, advocacy, and self-expression for young people. However, it has also exposed them to growing risks such as online harassment, misinformation, cyberstigma, technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TF-GBV), and violations of privacy and data rights.

The Youth Digital Safety Toolkit was co-created through a youth-led policy hackathon and extensive consultations with young people, policymakers, and digital rights actors. Supported by KICTANet and the European Union, the toolkit responds directly to the lived realities of young people navigating online spaces in Kenya and beyond.

This practical, easy-to-use resource equips young people with:

  • A clear understanding of their digital rights and responsibilities

  • Skills to identify and respond to online risks

  • Guidance on reporting online abuse and accessing support systems

  • Tools to promote responsible, ethical, and inclusive digital engagement

Beyond awareness, the toolkit empowers young people to become Digital Safety Champions advocates who lead conversations, support peers, and contribute to safer, more inclusive digital spaces in their communities and online platforms.

The Youth Digital Safety Toolkit is more than a guide; it is a call to action for young people to take ownership of digital spaces and shape a safer digital future.

Download the toolkit and join the movement for safer digital spaces.
